Happy Monday!! Welcome to week three. I hope you are all still with me on this journey as we seek our happy one day at a time. This week, as we walk through these days with a little more kindness, a little more gratitude and a lot more love I want to share with you a little of my own experience.

Most my life I had an attitude of a teenage girl. I started young with the “I hate the world” speech and kept it up by encompassing the “I know everything”, and “you can’t tell me no” mentality. I faced battles of my own making and trials brought to me without asking, and although I learned lessons I never truly learned the lesson, if you know what I mean. In recent years I’ve attempted the positive outlook and at times really believed I reached my happy, but it was eye opening to realize I may have been on my way to peace in my heart, but I wasn’t quite there yet.

Just in these few weeks, by consciously practicing kindness, giving back, being grateful, facing fears, loving those around me and myself without conditions, I’ve reached a whole new level of happy. My hard exterior has softened tremendously, my insane anxiety has calmed to a low that I never thought possible, and the opportunities and the people that it has brought into my life is unexplainable. Believe it or not, practice does make perfect, or at least gets you close. Take it from the sad, angry girl that once was, happiness is possible if you believe in yourself, the good that surrounds you and the love you have to offer.

So, you ready for the next week of reminders to puts a smile on your face, love who you are and choose to make every day another step closer to your happy? I hope you said yes 😊 because week three is a little of the same with a splash of different! Make it awesome, you deserve it!!

Day 1 – Monday

Consciously Smile More. Today is about shifting your mindset. Consciously SMILE more. It may sound funny, but try, its fun. Feeling off, smile; feeling negative, smile; upset about a work assignment, smile; sad your awesome kids are off to college, smile, because they are going to rock this new path. Even if it’s a little forced, smile. By focusing on the smile you shift to focusing on the good feeling and then the smile becomes genuine. Whatever it may be SMILE it will change your mood at least for moment and hopefully the day. (Because I’m a little late with this post, I consciously did do this today and my insanely crazy day of tennis balls flying at my head (metaphorically of course), was not nearly as bad as it would have been without the consciously effort to smile-it worked 😊)

Day 2-Tuesday

Tell a loved one you love them and then give them a hug. We all know how it goes, day in, day out, the routine of life. Many times we can go days without telling those we love that we love them. We assume they know, or maybe we feel it’s not necessary, or we just get caught up in the routine and don’t think about it. Today, make it a conscious effort to take a moment with a loved one and tell them that you love them and truly mean it. Then, wrapped your arms around them and give them a hug. Hold on for a moment and let them not just hear the words you say but feel them.

According to the January 31, 2013 article by Michael Raventhorpe, hugging can reduce stress and lower blood pressure. So, you don’t have to take it from me, the internet says so, it must be true. 🙂 Just go give them a hug, they deserve it and so do you!

Day 3-Wednesday

Today, give someone 2 compliments. Yep 2! Give them 2 compliments, or compliment 2 people. Just hand out the compliments, it gets easier as you keep doing it and its fun to see their reaction and their smile. As I’ve said previously, you really never know what anyone is going through at any time, but one compliment, one kind word, can help them through that moment or change their mood, which can open their heart a little more that minute, hour or day. Be kind and say it out loud – sprinkle the kindness and lift your soul.

Day 4-Thursday

Think of 3 things you are grateful for, and you can’t use the same ones from last week. Pick three new things and think deep why you are grateful and reflect on how much you acknowledge that gratitude in your daily life. Small or large be grateful. As you continue to write these down, reflect on the past weeks. Read through your list and remind yourself what you have to be thankful for.

Day 5-Friday

Do Something Healthy for Your Body. This may not need an explanation, but I can’t express the importance. Our mental and physical well-being complement each other and should both be priorities in our day. When we are mentally at ease or happy we have a desire to be physically happy and vice versa. You’ve been continuing to work hard on your mental health, today, make a choice to do something for your physical health. Go for a walk, join a class (if you’re local I have many suggestions), drink lots of water, eat your greens, go for a bike ride or take in the fresh air of the outside. Get up and get going, you will not regret it!

Day 6-Saturday

Give Back/Volunteer/Pay it Forward. Just like the last two weeks, Saturdays are a fantastic day to give back. This is a weekly task and for good reason. When we give back to others the feeling that fills you up is inexplainable. It is a completely different level of happy because you are giving happy to another. This can be done simply, or it can be dedicated time in the day, however you want to do it, but do something for someone else today, without expecting anything in return.

**This week’s local volunteer opportunity is “Breakfast for Those in Need” hosted by Hometown Happenings and St. Mary’s Church. Ask me for details if you’re interested!!

Day 7-Sunday

Reflection/Self-Care. Again, because this is so very important, this is another weekly task and like last week spend this day to take a moment to reflect your week, on your thoughts and on your emotions. Use this day to meditate, pray, read, sleep, or just sit in the quiet to calm your mind, hear your heart, and connect to yourself so you are ready for the week ahead. I know life can get busy, but please do not skip this day, it’s so very important for your well-being and for your soul.

      1. I’m not sure I would call myself an expert but I’d love to read your blog. I believe you are off to a great start – can I ask what the adventure entails? I’m excited to read more. My biggest advice is to always stay true to your voice and write from the heart like you are talking to your readers as if you know them. It’s all about connecting to your story! And don’t give up!       2. Hi Lisa, I don’t want to give away the adventure at this stage but it is massive to me…but then again what isn’t? I do have an underlying psychosis that i maintain through diaries and now blogs…don’t worry I am also a psychiatric nurse. I just need someone rational who will give me honest criticism…just looking at my next post and it is a rambler…to me..but maybe not to you. it would be great if you could sanity test my posts for me

  1. Hey love your day – ‘Smile more’. This is a great technique for finding more happiness. When you smile, your brain will activate neural messaging that will benefit your health and happiness overall. You also release neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine and endorphins that will actually make you a happier person and help you reduce stress levels.
